hallo-weeny

wowsa... it's been a while!

Ok, this might be a little late but better late than never right? So halloween was a hoot: the only night here at the project where we encouraged you to NOT be yourself!!!!

We started off the evening with delicious caramel apples, we made the caramel, and then just left it in a big bowl allowing everyone to dip and be creative. I'm pretty sure most of us have at least one cavity from them... DANG GINA, they were sure sweet!! Then we played a few games, the guys (Ira, Jon Greeves, Rob Campbell) took the win with the mummy wrap. They sure had a great system... the girls, well.. they didn't do so well, not very good coverage!

The next game we played, Nolan and Cesar were the suckas that got shaving cream all over their faces. Bryanna & Paul were the throwers and had to throw cheese puffs at their teammate's face (whilst blindfolded) Bryanna & Nolan, Paul & Cesar. Paul & Cesar would have taken the win, but Bryanna was doing so poorly, several un-blindfolded people helped her out, and as a result, they took the win.

The 3rd game, was a baby bottle chug competition (of Italian Soda) between Amanda and Sarah. Amanda bit the top off of her baby bottle and won as a result... (I guess we tolerate cheating here at the Project... good to see we have great morals!!)

There were some really great costumes, and then there was Bob Roth: the real estate agent with half blond hair, half brown... it really does take all kinds!!

we have a name...

Why are we called The Project? If you remember, in our first week Ira talked about how we, as a group, will constantly be under construction. We will be changing, growing, adapting and discipling all the time. We will never be finished, we are an ongoing project.

here's a snippet of a letter we are sending out to a bunch of 20somethings we know:

"Too often our generation wastes oxygen complaining about all the things we wish were different, yet rarely do we lift a finger to represent change ourselves. We're calling this meeting The Project because we recognize the need for change within ourselves and we know that it takes time. Instead of just talking about change, we want to see it happen, starting within each one of us. We don't necessarily have all the right answers, and we don't necessarily have it all together - but we believe it's better to try, than to do nothing. We are a work in progress - a project."

...
in other news...
Rob says goodbye.

My internship is coming to an end as of Sunday. Less than a week from now, I will be on the road heading back to Edmonton for year 3 of bible college fun. You have no idea how sad I am to have to leave as soon as The Project gets off the ground. You'll probably see me around over Christmas break.

Live long and prosper! (in the God way, not the Star Trek way)

friends,

don't forget - our second meeting EVER is happening tomorrow (tuesday), the 22nd. It's going to be fabulous, and you're going to want to be there. Remember, tomorrow is the only time in history that we will ever be meeting for the second time. After tomorrow, it will be the THIRD time. So don't miss this history making event.

leave a comment if you want to score bonus points with Jesus (just kidding - but you'll score bonus points with ME).

hello men and women of God,

thanks for all coming out on tuesday night. what an AWESOME time. God has big things for this group as we grow together and are under 'constant construction'.

i believe that we each have the capacity to see lives changed. one definition of leadership is that leadership is influence.

no matter who you are, you can be sure that somebody looks up to you, and therefore, that puts you in a place of influence. make the most of it. our call is to go out and make disciples (matthew 28:16-20), we call it 'being missional' and it is one of our values as a group. missionaries are not just people who go to poor countries, they are people who make disciples.

be challenged to explore relationship with your peers, coworkers etc. learn about them, express interest in them, bless them and gain their friendship. love them like Christ loved the unchurched, pray for the right opportunity to make them a disciple.

be missional!

welcome to the official blog of our colwood church young adults gathering!

starting tomorrow, august 15, we will be meeting on tuesday nights in the church basement.

the "doors open" at 7.
we will hang out, have some drink, eat some food, and begin developing relationships and community that last beyond the walls of our church building. robbie will pull out his guitar and we'll worship together, and ira will teach from the Word. afterwards, we'll spend a chunk of time connecting and sharing.

... then we will have a campfire and sing kumbayah (just kidding).

it's going to be a great time, and we are praying that this group grows and becomes a place where lives are changed directly and indirectly, a place where we get serious about our passions, and a place where we don't just talk about change, but where we become it.

come and check it out!

check back to this blog regularly (and possibly temporarily) as we update with events, thoughts, developments, vision etc etc. feel free to leave comments (you don't need to be a registered user).

we don't have a name yet. maybe you can suggest one in the comments?
